portugal has an abundant culture and the people are very kind. its nature varies and is full of surprises. there are moutains and lash valleys as much as sandy beaches. the portugese are very hospitable and they welcome all forreigners - be it as tourists or as a residents. portuguese have a healthy relationship with their nation, criticizing as much as being proud. everbody feels at home in portugal. it is very easy to make friends that are generous and ready to share everything with you. this touching character of the portugese people makes strangers stay and engage in the development of portugal. different generations of children know gulliver and lilliput from books and cartoons. traces in literature give the hint that leomel gulliver was brought to lisbon on a ship. so liliput might be portugal? information about portugal: about 200 million people all over the world speak portuguese i.e. in: portugal, brazil, angola, mozambique, timor west, in indonesia, macao in china, goa in india, on the cab verde islands ,in portuguese guinea and Sao Tome and Principe. in the north and the east portugal meets spain, on the west side and south side you will meet the atlantic ocean. the algarve in the south is close to northafrica, marocco. once upon a time people thought that the Cabo de São Vicente - the most southwestern point of europe - was the end of the world. and truely there is a lot of water until you reach land again. portugal's population is about 10,6 million. the biggest city and its capital is lisbon. there is another big city that is porto in the northern region of portugal. the national surface is 92.117 sq km. there are 8 main regions, (Green Coast, Mountains, Silver Coast, Plains, Lisbon Coast, Algarve, Madeira, Azores) 18 districts and two autonomos regions azores and madeira. the original portuguese food is natural and healthy the soil and the mild climate make portuguese fruits and vegetables tasty. and of course seafood is a big part of portugese cuisine. one curious typical portugese item is cork.75% of the worlds cork production for bottles (10 billions/year) is in portugese hands. a little story: At the lissbon airport we met a japanese agriculture expert who is living in iran. in perfect persian with a sweet japanese accent he explained to us that nowhere in the world cork can be successfully made synthetically or grown as in portugal. for the flavour of wine it is still the best. more curious things: in persia the name for orange is the same name as the country: portegal. we think that everybody should at least travel once in his lifetime to portugal to get to know these lovely people and their country.
